Richie's Final Mission to Brightwater School, Tasman

Our fifth and final special milk delivery was made yesterday morning at Brightwater School by Richie McCaw. The rain clouds cleared just after 7am allowing Richie to safely touch down for an early morning flying visit.

On exiting the helicopter Richie had a quick chat with Matty McLean, weatherman for TVNZ Breakfast who was excited to be covering the visit live. Principal, Gerald Baldwin, greeted Richie before the 90 strong kapa haka group performed a fantastic welcome.

It was straight into some early morning games of puzzle relay, gumboot toss and 'move-the-cows' relay. Following the activities, the kids enjoyed yoghurt, fruit and a yummy cheese muffin for breakfast, topped off with a chilled pack of Fonterra Milk for Schools milk, with Richie, local Fonterra Farmers and local deputy mayor, Tim King.

Once everyone was refreshed and refuelled the kids had time to ask Richie a few questions. Lucy asked Richie ‘From your childhood, who inspired you the most to do your best and why? Richie responded saying that his parents were hugely influential in encouraging him and to make the most of every opportunity that comes along. This is one of the key messages Richie has lived by and when an opportunity arises he rises to the challenge.

The morning wrapped up with a fantastic song the kids made up and have been busy practicing for the last 4 days!

It has been a huge 5 weeks visiting 5 amazing primary schools across New Zealand. A massive thank you to everyone who got involved and supported Richie's Milk Run – we couldn't have done it without you!
Thank you also to our Fonterra Farmers, who provide milk to more than 1430 primary schools across New Zealand every school day.
